13 Nov:  999 calls at 20.15 reporting a car driven off the Sandbanks side of the chain ferry slipway started a huge search and rescue operation involving Coastguard, Police, Fire and Ambulance. Coastguard Helicopters Rescue India Juliet and Whisky Bravo were scrambled and located a female in the water who was immediately flown to hospital. As it was unknown how many persons had been in the vehicle the search continued, using Dorset Police Marine Section, Lifeboats from Poole and Swanage and Coastguard Search Teams checking the shore line. Just after 00.30, Police confirmed the female was the sole occupant of the vehicle and all search units were released. Regrettably it has just been reported the female later died in hospital, our thoughts at this difficult time go to the friends and family.

05 Nov:  November 5th is a busy time for Coastguard due to the number of 999 calls from the public reporting red flares amongst the fireworks. This year a planned operation was set up to monitor locations along the Dorset coast to quickly confirm if the sightings were genuine or hoaxes. From 19.00 to 22.30 over 30 sightings of red flares were seen in Swanage, Poole and Bournemouth all were confirmed hoaxes. We would like to remind people that firing flares when not in distress puts lives at risk when vital life saving equipment is diverted to investigate these reports.
